Tottenham Hotspur: James Maddison is one of the star England players who did not receive an England call-up for the Nations League.
The midfielder was heavily linked with a move away from Leicester City in the summer. But the club decided against selling him.
Recent reports in England claim that the star may receive a huge offer from Newcastle United. Leicester rejected summer bids from the Magpies.
But according to rumours, Tottenham Hotspur is working hard to land a deal for the Leicester midfielder, as they are keen to add creativity in their midfield section.
Tottenham Hotspur: Newcastle’s Two Summer Bids
Leicester received two huge offers from Newcastle in the summer which were worth £40 million and later £45 million. But manager Brandon Rodgers was not ready to let go of another star player of his squad after the sale of Wesley Fofana. As Rodgers told on selling Maddison that the price “might just cover three-quarters of his left leg”.
But Newcastle has not stopped yet. According to the Times, the Magpies will return for Maddison if the Foxes reduce their asking price in the January window. As per the contract, the 25-year-old will have just 18 months left on his contract in the winter window.
Link to Tottenham
Recent rumours suggest that Tottenham is very keen to bring in the midfielder. According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, “Tottenham are long-term admirers of Maddison and they have liked him for a while now.” James Maddison’s link to the Spurs was also confirmed by Football. London.
After selling Eriksen to Inter back in 2020, Daniel Levy struggled to replace the Danish midfielder. Lo Celso came as his replacement, but Premier League football does not suit him.
Pundit’s Comments on the Rumours
Upon the British midfielder’s link to Spurs, Barclay spoke: “With Conte, he loves experienced players who can take his team to the next level and Maddison’s the kind of player that they’re lacking. That bit of creativity.”
While talking at TalkSPORT, Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan backed Maddison to play for a top-six club in the league. He said both Tottenham and Arsenal should go for the player.
He said: “He is a good player on a bad side in terms of the way Leicester are playing at this moment in time… I think James Maddison has all the talent to go up a level and go into a big-six club and perform at that level.”
Both Tillemans and Maddison have attracted the interest of many English clubs. Leicester is struggling in the league, as they are at bottom of the League table. Though Leicester is struggling, Maddison has three goals and an assist this season.
He also recorded 12 strikes and eight assists for his team and helped the Foxes to finish 8th position in the league table last season. Antonio Conte will love to add a player of such calibre.
