Spurs Manager Antonio Conte has doubts over Clement Lenglet and Davinson Sanchez, as they often struggle to maintain consistency in their performance.
The North London Club has long been watching the Spanish defender and reportedly made a bid in 2021 to bring him into the English Premier League.
But Torres was not ready to leave the Yellow Submarines after qualifying for the Champions League by winning the Europa League.
Tottenham Hotspur Facing Competition From Other Premier League Rivals
Spurs will have to face a big competition to sign the Spaniard, as Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United are also desperate to get his signature. Spanish giants like Barcelona and Real Madrid are also very keen to sign Villareal‘s star defender.
According to the reports from Ekrem Konur, Torres will leave Villarreal at the end of the season. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is a big fan of his countryman and is also keen to add another left-footed defender.
Right now in the Arsenal squad, Gabriel is partnering with William Saliba, while Benjamin White has shifted to a right-back position. Arsenal is also furious to get Torres after missing out on Lisandro Martinez in the summer.
Chelsea is also in the race, as they are looking to replace Thiago Silva. They are seeing the 25-year-old Spaniard as a second choice on their shortlist behind top target Josko Gvardiol.
Conte is looking to improve his defense with the signing of Torres, as he has doubts over the abilities of Davinson Sanchez and Clement Lenglet. Lenglet is currently on loan from Barcelona. The Italian manager has already informed the club’s board to pursue a new centre-half.
Lucas Moura’s Interest in La Liga
On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur attacker Lucas Moura has welcomed the idea of joining La Liga side, Sevilla. The Brazilian has struggled to play under Conte and has received a lack of game time. The new summer arrival Richarlison has not helped him to get his position back at starting XI.
Moura has not featured for Spurs since matchday two against Chelsea due to a calf injury. The 30-year-old has over 200 appearances for the north London club under his belt.
During the international break, he addressed his links to Sevilla. He told: “I didn’t know about Sevilla’s interest, but it’s a club that I like and a city that they speak very highly of. Playing in La Liga would be something fantastic for me because I like it a lot.”
After facing a humiliating defeat against Arsenal in the North London derby, Tottenham Hotspur needs to focus on their defensive department. Signing the 25-year-old Pau Torres will be a smart move for the club as well.
