Tottenham Hotspur News: Spurs suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat against Middlesbrough to crash out of the FA Cup. A 107th-minute winner from Josh Coburn handed them an unlikely victory and an entry into the quarter-finals of the competition.
The defeat meant that they will once again finish the season without any silverware to their name. After a dream run in the Premier League in his initial days, Antonio Conte has suddenly struggled to churn out the required results.
Former Newcastle United striker, Alan Shearer did not mince his words in describing the Lilywhites’ performance on the night against Middlesbrough. The PL Hall of Famer called Spurs “flaky” after their shock defeat against the League One outfit.
“This was no fluke,” Shearer said on the BBC. “Spurs were so flaky, typical Tottenham. They were the better team from start to finish. They were first to every tackle, they created chances, and had more energy.
Tottenham Hotspur News: Antonio Conte has failed to produce the results desired of him in the past couple of weeks
Alan Shearer was bang on his assessment of Antonio Conte’s side. Middlesbrough created way more than their Premier League rivals and deserved to win the match on the balance of the game.
Antonio Conte started with his first choice eleven, which consisted of the likes of Harry Kane and Heung Min Son, but the duo failed to show their inspiring form.
“Certainly in extra-time, they made the better substitutions. Chris Wilder can be extremely proud of what his team has achieved tonight,” said Alan Shearer.
Shearer also praised Middlesbrough and their coach, Chris Wilder for his decisions and their overall performance. Boro have made a habit of making an upset in the FA Cup after they knocked out Manchester United on penalties in the 4th round.
Middlesbrough marches on.
“What a night for Middlesbrough and their fans, he (Wilder) was up for it, the players were up for it. It’s a shame the Tottenham players weren’t up for it. Typical Tottenham, Middlesbrough thoroughly deserved to be in the quarter-finals.”
Tottenham Hotspur has dropped points in the recent weeks in the Premier League as well. They have fallen behind their North London rivals, Arsenal in the league table.
Tottenham Hotspur, however, needs to find a way to get themselves out of their self-created rut. The Lilywhites have a couple of difficult fixtures to negate in the Premier League against Everton and Manchester United.
Failure to finish in the Top-4 spots in the League this season, will in all probability have massive repercussions next season, in regards to the future of their talisman striker, Harry Kane. The English striker will look for a way out of the club if he remains unsure of the club’s ambition in winning trophies going forward.
