Tottenham Hotspur News: English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur were stunned as Sporting Lisbon struck twice in injury time to register a memorable win.
Sporting substitute Paulinho and Arther Gomes were the scorers for the home side as they handed Tottenham their first loss of the season.
Sporting had a great start to the match and made Tottenham’s life uncomfortable. They eventually created the best chances of the match and took them in the final minutes.
Meanwhile, the Spurs were clearly uncomfortable from the start and never looked in control of the match.

Sporting started the match with a clear game plan. They had a steady start to the match and were not allowing Tottenham anything to work upon. Soon the Spurs side started to get frustrated and commit errors.
From such an error, Marcus Edwards created a great opportunity for Pedro Goncalves, who forced a full stretched save from Spurs captain Hugo Lloris to keep the score level.
Marcus Edwards kept on questioning his former team’s defense and showed some mesmerizing skills.
Meanwhile, Spurs forward Richarlison was caught offside after rounding past Adan and scoring a goal. Spurs’ first half display was clearly not up to the mark as they looked sluggish in possession and out of ideas many times.
Tottenham finally came out of their sluggishness in the second half and created a lot of opportunities to score.
Spurs right-back Emerson Royal got two chances within a span of two minutes but failed to convert both of them. Tottenham’s talisman Harry Kane then forced a save from Adan before Richarlison’s effort agonizingly went past the post.
After soaking in this huge pressure from Spurs, Sporting since again regained control of the match but was not creating much themselves.
Just when it looked like the match will end as a draw, Sporting took the lead through Paulinho’s header from a corner. Soon after that Gomes doubled Sporting’s score and secured full points from the match.
Tottenham manager’s words
With the defeat, Spurs’ manager Antonio Conte looked very frustrated. While expressing the same in the press conference he said, “For sure we are frustrated because the game was balanced and we tried to win the game in the second half.”
The Tottenham manager further added, “But in the last 10 minutes we can do much better. They score with a corner, then we conceded the second goal after 90 minutes. It’s a pity, a difficult game for sure.”

With this win, Sporting Lisbon is now at the top of Group D with six points from two matches. They will face Boavista in their next match.
