Tottenham Hotspur News: Barcelona will allegedly have to compete with Tottenham for the services of 28-year-old French playmaker Nabil Fekir.
Spurs, AC Milan, and Juventus have joined Barcelona in the fight to acquire Nabil Fekir during the next summer transfer window, according to a report by Spanish daily MARCA.
However, the 28-year-old playmaker would only leave Real Betis to join rival La Liga team Barcelona. Therefore shutting out any other potential suitors in the competition for his services.
Nabil Fekir has progressed in leaps and bounds since joining Real Betis from Lyon in July 2019. However, despite his early problems with the Verdiblancos in his first season in Spain, the French international has established himself as a crucial player for them in the current campaign. He has helped them to achieve a top-four finish.
Tottenham Hotspur News: Fekir’s resurgence.
In 31 appearances in all competitions this season, the 28-year-old playmaker has scored nine goals and provided seven assists for his team. The success of Fekir has drawn the attention of numerous high-profile teams throughout Europe.
Tottenham Hotspur is one of the clubs vying to recruit him during the summer transfer window, alongside Barcelona and Real Madrid.
In this case, the uncertainty surrounding Ousmane Dembele may have piqued the curiosity of the Spanish club. As things stand, the 2018 FIFA World Cup champion is unlikely to sign a new deal with Barcelona. He will be able to walk away from Camp Nou as a free agent.
Because of Dembele’s departure, there will be an opening in Barcelona’s offensive department. So, Fekir surfaced as a potential target.
Will Tottenham be able to sign Nabil Fekir?
Because of his ability to play in a midfield trio, the 28-year-old is a desirable option for the Spanish champions. The Blaugrana, however, will have to contend with heavy competition from Tottenham in order to sign Fekir.
With the addition of Dejan Kulusevski during the January transfer window, Tottenham reinforced their attacking options. However, Steven Bergwijn’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is in doubt due to interest from AC Milan. Fekir might be a step up from the Dutchman in terms of performance.
Coincidentally, Fekir is also being pursued by AC Milan and Juventus. However, he will only leave Real Betis to join Barcelona soon. In recent weeks, however, Real Betis president Angel Haro claimed that the La Liga club is not concerned about rumours surrounding the 28-year-old playmaker.
He has pointed to the player’s €100 million release clause as evidence. It is possible that Fekir will not be able to play elsewhere in the summer.
