Tottenham Hotspur‘s long search for Hugo Lloris‘s replacement has ended. The Tottenham board is considering signing Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili as a long-term successor to their club captain.

The veteran goalkeeper is now 35, and his contract has only one-and-a-half years left. He served the Spurs as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. He also played extraordinarily against the Red Devils at Old Trafford in his last fixture. Even though Tottenham Hotspur ended up losing the game with a 2-0 scoreline.

Two big names Jan Oblak and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, two of the biggest names came up to replace Lloris recently. But new reports suggest that Mamardashvili is the club’s number one candidate to replace the Spurs captain with Leeds United goalkeeper, Illan Meslier.

It is said that the Georgian goalkeeper is seen as a more realistic target than Barcelona and Atletico Madrid keepers. Mamardashvili is not a big name in the world of football. His permanent move to Valencia has earlier this year. He is at the beginning of his career and has a long way to go.

However, the player’s agent, Levan Seturidze, has stated that the player is happy at Valencia and will not rush to make a move elsewhere now. Talking to Calciomercato, he spoke: “Many important teams are watching him and we have found interest from them, not only from Italian but also English teams. For now, our goal is Valencia and he must do his utmost to grow even more.”

Tottenham Hotspur must strike a deal as soon as possible. Otherwise, the former Dinamo Batumi goalkeeper’s price will get more expensive. Lloris came from Olympique Lyonnais for €10 million and €5 million variable in August 2012 which has become Spurs’ one of the best transfer dealings.

Mamardashvili has the potential of becoming a goalie like the French star. If the Lilywhites sign him before their captain’s departure, that will give the Valencia keeper time to adapt to Premier League football.
