Tottenham Hotspur has a bad reputation for spending less, but that is not a complete truth. The Spurs spent a huge fortune under Daniel Levy to build an advanced training centre.
They also spent big on players to guarantee their top 6 finish every season. Their evolution is remarkable to get some of the best stars in the the history of English Premier League.
But all of them are not that successful. Some players did let the North London fans down. Their spending also helped them to reach the final of the Champions League under Mauricio Pochettino in the 2018-19 season.
Since then, they were not able to upgrade their squad until recently. This summer they surprised their fans by spending around £172 million. But unlike other big 5 clubs, they have crossed the £50 million mark only twice with Tanguy Ndombele and Richarlison.
So far, Daniel Levy’s strategy has helped Tottenham Hotspur bloom into a big threat in European football. They spend on the right players with less money than other English clubs and yet they have achieved consistency to qualify for Europe.
Paratici’s First Major Signing

Antonio Conte‘s team is right now third in the league table competing against Arsenal and Manchester City this season with just 4 points difference from the league leader.
Tottenham Hotspur’s three most successful signings are Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, and Son Heung Min. But today, let’s have a look at some of the most expensive signings of the North Londoners.
After joining the Spurs last summer, Fabio Paratici’s first big summer signing was Christian Romero. He was an upgrade to the existing Davidson Sanchez and others. Tottenham signed him on a loan deal last summer with an option to make his move permanent.
Under Conte, he was an impressive defender. He permanently joined the North Londoners this summer on a permanent deal worth £45 million. The Argentine international signed a contract that will last until 2027.
Richarlison from Everton

After helping Everton to survive relegation last year, Richarlison joined Spurs for £52.50 million this summer. He is now the second most expensive signing in the club’s history.
Unlike Ndombele, the Brazilian international has become an integral part of Conte’s squad this season. He has featured in every important game for the Spurs. He also scored twice on his Champions League debut against Marseille in September.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Biggest Flop

Ndombele joined Tottenham Hotspur for £54 million in 2019 as the most expensive signing in the club’s history. He was a subject of interest from many European clubs. But sadly, he was not able to cope with Premier League football.
After Conte’s arrival, he left the club for Lyon on a loan deal in 2022. This season, he joined Napoli on a loan move with a €30 million buy option to make his move permanent.
Other major signings are Davinson Sanchez for £37.80 million, Moussa Sissoko for £31.50 million, Giovani Lo Celso for £28.80 million, and Steven Bergwijn for £27 million respectively. These signings make a conclusion that Tottenham Hotspur has splashed £1.4 billion on incoming transfers in the last 22 years.
