Diego Carlos has earned the attention of Pep Guardiola as Spurs also look interested in signing.
Manchester City needs a defensive signing. Man City haven’t been able to fill the hole left by the Kompany’s departure. Due to City’s ban, it was not clear how the Guardiola will approach the summer window.
But now since the ban has been lifted. Manchester City will surely be looking to add more talent to their squad. City’s defense has been very shaky this season and that is the one area they need to improve on.
Pep Guardiola is looking at center backs all over the world. But Sevilla’s Diego Carlos is apparently at the top of the list. Diego Carlos has been a key part of the Sevilla team since his arrival.
He completed his move from Nantes in May 2019 for a fee of £13.50 million. But in just one season his transfer value has gone up to 3 times. Although that is all because of his wonderful performances with the club.
Carlos has been part of 40 games for the club in all competitions. He also has 2 goals to his name. But what makes his special is coolness on the ball. He is fast and has a good built but most importantly is very comfortable on the ball.
Certainly, a player who would fit in a Guardiola team straightaway. However, Sevilla wants a sum of £65 million for Diego Carlos. But considering it’s Manchester City there should be any problems regarding the amount. Although the club does face competition from Premier League rival Tottenham.
Tottenham looking to provide competition to City for the Brazilian defender
Tottenham faces a problem very similar to Manchester City. Jan Vertonghen and Alderweireld are coming of age now. Mourinho too prefers to play Eric Dier in a center back position alongside Davinson Sanchez.
But that is not Dier’s natural position and Sanchez also is not too consistent in his performances. According to the Telegraph, Spurs have also shown interest in Diego Carlos. Mourinho thinks highly of the player and would like for him to be a part of the team.
But it won’t be easy. Tottenham will have to battle it out with City for Carlos. Although Manchester City does have another player’s insight too. Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Villareal’s Pau Torres have been linked with the club.
Should Man City choose not to pursue Diego Carlos Tottenham can try and sign him. However, paying up the £65 million price tag can prove difficult for the Spurs. It will all depend on how Tottenham are placed in the league at the end of the season.
European football is a huge source of revenue for any club. And if Tottenham is able to qualify they will have the funds to try and pursue the deal. The main focus for the club will be upcoming against Leicester and Crystal Palace.
A move to either City or Tottenham will be a good step in Carlos’s career. But as of now, he is happy with Sevilla. The club is in the top 4 and might play in the Champions League. Also this season they are still there in the Europa League. It will take quite an offer to lure Carlos away.
