Twitter left fuming at in form star’s exclusion from the ODI and T20I squads

The All India Senior Selection Committee of the BCCI on Monday announced the squads for the upcoming limited over fixtures against Australia and New Zealand. MS Dhoni made his return to the T20I squad after being dropped from the shortest format in the series against West Indies (in November) and Australia (in December). Pandya and Kedar Jadhav also marked their returns to the squad, which pretty much looks like the core team for the 2019 World Cup scheduled to be played in England and Wales from May 30.

Karnataka batsman Manish Pandey was one of the few Indian cricketers who failed to make a cut into the squad. Pandey, who was drafted into the squad for the three match T20I series against West Indies on the back of impressve performances in List A cricket, failed to leave a mark on the selectors’ mind. The right hander could manage only 23 runs in the limited opportunities he could receive in the series.

The 29 year old was also included in the three match T20I series against Australia down under but did not get a chance to prove his mettle against the Aaron Finch led side. Pandey however got to feature in the India A squad for the three match series against New Zealand A, in which he 158 runs at an average of 52.67 with a highest score of 111* in the second encounter of the series at Mount Maunganui.

The exclusion from the squad definitely means that the 29 year old is no longer in the scheme of things going into the 2019 World Cup. This decision of the selectors, however, has left the fans fuming all over social media. While many feel that Pandey should have been retained, some argued over KL Rahul’s retention in the squad even after repeated failures and questioned the selection policy of the selection panel.
