James Maddison has become one of the most wanted midfielders in England thanks to his form at Leicester City. He has been pursued by many big clubs. But his recent performance back from injury helped his club to their first-ever FA Cup triumph. Which means that the suitors will not be cooling interest in him.

Born in Coventry, James Maddison started his football career at the second division side, Coventry City. He played for the youth side for a while until he was called to the first team in 2013. He still had to wait for his debut as he did not feature that year. James got his debut a year later against Cardiff City.

That same year, he signed his professional contract with the club. 2 years later, another Championship side, Norwich City signed him. He was soon returned to Coventry on a loan deal though. Maddison completed the remainder of the season with his old club. After finishing his spell, he was hoping for his fresh start.

However, he was again sent on loan. This time, to the Scottish side, Aberdeen. After returning from the 6-month spell, he was given his long-awaited debut. He only made 3 appearances for Norwich that season. However, after the new manager took over, he was without any hesitation given the regular starts.

And that trust paid off. At the end of his first proper season, James Maddison made 49 appearances and scored 15 goals. Along with that, he also won the EFL Championship Young Player of the Year award and Norwich City’s Player of the Year award.

His performance was recognized by Premier League side Leicester City, and in 2018 he joined the Foxes on a 5-year deal for a fee rumoured to be around £20 million.

Following his impressive start, he signed a new contract in 2020. Since joining the club, James has enjoyed plenty of opportunities which has also helped Leicester City stay at the top half of the table. Last season, the club finished 5th and they secured a Europa League spot.

This season, he has registered for the first time, double figures in goals as well as assists with 21 goal involvements. His breakthrough helped him land a spot in the national squad. Although he has only made one appearance, he has been named in the squad that will be participating in the Euro 2020 tournament.

His form has attracted the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea. James had appreciated Pep Guardiola’s style of play which would indicate his potential destination if he left. However, Chelsea are equally interested in him. Although he won’t be a priority for City, the thought that Foden, De Bruyne and Maddison playing together has been electrifying.

Thomas Tuchel however, is looking to add a few new faces as some old ones are out of his favour. They have shown more desire for the 34-year-old midfielder. But in order to get him, at least £51 million must be splashed to make Leicester consider the deal.

Leicester City have established itself as the latest member of the top-6. They had a great chance to secure a top-4 spot this season, but they stumbled when the season drew to a close. Currently, they are 3rd, however, their lead is delicate.

They are at the risk of missing the Champions League as Chelsea and Liverpool are only 1 and 3 points behind respectively. Their main task will be the next fixture where they face Chelsea. If they can replicate the FA Cup final result, they will be safe.
