UEFA Champions League 2021/22: The semi-finals fixtures of the competition have been decided. Manchester City will take on Real Madrid in the first semi-final. Whereas Liverpool will take on Villarreal in the second semi-final.
The quarter-finals stage of the UEFA Champions League saw heavyweights like Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, and surprisingly Bayern Munich get eliminated. Hence we could certainly expect surprises among the last four teams as well.
UEFA Champions League 2021/22, Semifinals 1: Manchester City vs Real Madrid
We Start off with the big game between Manchester City and Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. Both the teams have gone through completely different emotions to come through to the semifinals.
Real Madrid beat Chelsea in a dramatic tie that eventually ended 5-4 in favour of the Spanish giants. After a 3-1 loss in the first leg, The Blues made a wholehearted comeback in the second leg. But they eventually fell to the genius of Luka Modric and Karim Benzema.
Manchester City on the other hand had a “defensive victory” over Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals. The Sky Blues won the tie 1-0 as the Rojiblancos failed to create any goal-scoring opportunities across the two legs.
The first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals tie will be played at the Etihad Stadium on 26th April. Whereas the return leg will be played on 4th May at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
We expect Manchester City to win the game over the two legs. Pep Guardiola certainly has a better team than Carlo Ancelotti at the moment. But Karim Benzema could be the wildcard for Real Madrid if the Frenchman goes bezerk once again!
UCL 2021/22, Semifinals 2: Liverpool vs Villarreal
Villarreal have been the surprise package of the UEFA Champions League this season. The Yellow Submarine have eliminated Juventus and Bayern Munich in the last two rounds. Hence they are now rewarded with a game against Liverpool in the semi-finals.
As stated earlier, Villarreal beat Bayern Munich by an aggregate score of 2-1 in the quarterfinals. The Bavarian had a host of chances but their strikers misfired as the Spanish side held their nerves to knock the German giants out of the competition.
Liverpool on the other hand beat Benfica 6-4 on aggregate over the two legs. The tie was certainly tight and full of entertainment! The Portuguese side did not back down as the Reds held on to end Benfica’s resistance!
The first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals tie will be played at Anfield. Whereas the return leg will be played at the Estadio Estadio de la Ceramica the following week.
We expect Liverpool to beat Villarreal given that they have more experience than their counterparts in the knockout rounds. But the Spanish side is on a dream run and can certainly upset the Reds on their night. As per our predictions, we could see Manchester City and Liverpool taking on each other in the finals of the UCL 2021/22 at the Stade De France.
