Uefa Champions League (UCL) Games to Look Out for on Wednesday Night Football

Club football resumed last weekend with some tantalizing matches after a two-week layoff. Now that the weekend game week is over, we can move on to the following. The UEFA Champions League (UCL), The crown of club football, has returned.

This midweek, match-day 3 of the UCL will resume. Groups E through H will compete against one another on Wednesday. We have already seen two matchdays in the UCL. Which had some fantastic games, some of which were decided in the last seconds.

Coming onto Group E to H who will be playing on Wednesday. In group E it has become more intriguing. Milan is at the top of the table with one win and one draw. While Chelsea, who was expected to top the group at rock bottom with one point from 2 games. Then in  Group F Real Madrid dominated with 2 wins and 2 matchday games. While Rb Leipzig has been disappointed, losing 2 out of 2 games. It would be interesting to see who would top the E and F games after game week 3 in UCL.

In group G, Manchester City has been the dominant force in the group. They have won 2 out of 2 games and have been perfect in UCL so far. Dortmund has had one loss and one win in the group. Sevilla has been disappointing so far in this group. In group H PSG and Benfica have had perfect records so far. Juventus have lost both games in two UCL match days. They are under the threat of being eliminated from UCL in the group stage itself.

With match-day 3 of the Uefa Champions League approaching. We have chosen to take a close look at the games to keep an eye on throughout Wednesday night’s UCL action. There are three UCL games on Wednesday night to keep an eye on:

3 Games to watch out for Wednesday Night action in UCL

 1. Chelsea vs AC Milan

One of the biggest games on Wednesday night football in UCL will be Chelsea taking on AC Milan. This game will have a huge impact on the group E scenario. If Milan wins it they will be in pole position to top the group and Chelsea will be one step closer to getting eliminated from UCL in the group stage itself. If Chelsea wins they have equal points alongside Milan and will remain alive in the group and also in the Uefa Champions League campaign.

AC Milan has a decent start in Serie A for their title defense. They have won 5 games and lost just one game while being drawn so far. They are just 3 points behind league leaders, Napoli. In UCL they had a surprise draw against Salzburg on matchday 1. On UCL matchday 2 they defeated Zagreb with ease. Milan coming into this all-important fixture back off resounding in last weekend’s Serie A action.  Milan being a team playing noisy Stamford Bridge stadium will be challenging for them against Chelsea for whom this game virtually turned into a must-win knockout game.

Talking about Chelsea, they have had a tough time this season. Firstly off the field, many changes took place than before they could settle in finally their Champions League-winning coach Thomas Tuchel was fired by the new owners and now Gram Potter the former Brighton boss has taken over Chelsea.

Chelsea under Potter has only played two games and in both games hasn’t looked comfortable. In Potter’s first game in charge, they drew against Salzburg and recently somehow managed to sneak a win against Crystal Palace.  No matter what, this game against Milan in UCL will be Gram Potter’s biggest test as a Chelsea manager. With Chelsea in a situation wherein, they can’t afford to lose the game pressure levels have just increased 10 times more.

Overall we expect this Chelsea vs Milan clash on matchday 3 of UCL. It Turned out to be a classic Champions League game, hopefully, full of drama and excitement. With possible elimination on the line, Chelsea will go all out in this game while Milan would want to continue their good form and possibly seal the top spot in Group E.

2. Benfica vs PSG

Normally this game would be a one-sided affair but this season things are a bit different. But this season Benfica has been on a roll. They have yet to be defeated in all competitions this season. In Portugal, in their home league, Benfica has a perfect record. They have won 7 out 8 games and the only game they dropped points was a draw last game week after returning from the International break. In UCL so far Benfica has been perfect in the Champions League. They have 2 out of 2 games.

Benfica has been big boys’ killers in the Champions League. Last Season they got the better of Barcelona. This time it looks like Benfica is going giant killers once again target being Italian giants Juventus. Benfica recently defeated Juventus in pole position to finish second or even first in the group.

Coming into their opponents PSG is a team to watch out for in Europe. They have the deadliest front 3 of all time. Messi- Neymar and Mbappe. This Season it looks like Leo Messi has got his mojo back and he has just become unstoppable. He has become PSG’s source of creativity and complements it. PSG has the world’s best forwards Neymar and Mbappe. In France, they are league leaders and even in UCL have won 2 out of 2 games in a convincing manner.

Benfica will find it tough to defend against mighty PSG but at the same time, PSG too might find it difficult to break the defensively well-organized Benfica. With both teams having a 100% record so far in UCL. It would be interesting to see how the clash turns out and how it eventually spills the bins out of the two.

3. Sevilla vs Dortmund

The last game to look out for Wednesday night UCL action might be Sevilla hosting Dortmund. Sevilla is at bottom of Group G with just one point out of the 2 games. Sevilla had one of the toughest seasons so far. They look completely down and out be it in the league and even in the Champions League.

Sevilla is currently fighting a relegation battle in Laliga. They have just got 5 points from 8 games in Spain. Their only win in the competition came against Espanyol in the last minutes of the game. Sevilla has been utterly disappointing this season. In the Champions League, the story isn’t any different. They lost to Manchester City in the opening game and then had a disheartening draw on matchday 2 against Copenhagen.

Coming into their opponent Dortmund they have blown hot and cold this season. Some games are spectacular while some are dull and boring. Dortmund has bottled key movements in the season so far. The latest is they had a perfect chance to top the Bundesliga table this weekend but lost the game against an easy opponent and are now 4th with 2 points behind league leaders.

In UCL they had won in the opening matchday but lost to Manchester City on matchday 2 after playing so well for the majority of the match. Erling Haaland their former player came back to haunt them in the last minutes of the game at Etihad stadium.

With Sevilla hosting Dortmund they must win the game for them to stay alive in UCL. We expect it to turn out to be an enthralling game in Seville on big occasions of the Champions League mid-week matchday.
