UEFA Nations League: UEFA Nations League fixtures have resumed again and will start from tomorrow. A total of 55 nations from the European Continent take part in this competition.


This is the third edition of the UEFA Nations League which started in June 2022. The league will end with the final which will happen in the same month of the next year.


The groups were set by the draw on 16 December which happened in Nyon of Switzerland.


The first game of the third edition of the Nations League happened on 1st June, and the open fixture was between Poland and Wales. The result was in Poland’s favour with a 2-1 win.

In June, the league had 6 Matchdays. The league started on 1st June and paused on 15th June. In this season, four of the six matchdays were scheduled in June due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in winter.

The last game of the league was between England and Hungary. Hungary surprised the football fans by beating the Three Lions with a 4-0 scoreline.

Nations League Rules

There are four leagues in the tournament with 55 UEFA national teams. These four leagues are A, B, C, and D. 16 teams feature in the first three leagues(A, B, and C). But D has only 7 national teams.


Each League consists of four groups of four teams. But League D has only two groups. One group has 4 countries and another has three. All the European nations were placed in each league, based on the previous season’s league table result.

All four group winners of League A move forward to the knockout Finals of June 2023. But the group winners of the other three leagues will get the promotion to the higher league respectively for the 2024-25 edition.


The national teams which will finish fourth in the groups of Leagues A and B will face relegation.

But the case of League C is different. All four teams finishing fourth in the League C groups will fight in the play-outs, which will happen in March 2024. The two defeated nations in that tie will play in League D next season.

2022/23 UEFA Nations League has an important relation to UEFA Euro 2024. Three of the 24 participating countries at Euro will be determined by playoff spots via Nations League. According to UEFA regulations, 12 national teams selection will happen on the performances based in the 2022/23 Nations League.


The group winners of Leagues A, B, and C will enjoy this privilege. But if they have already qualified for Euro, the non-qualified teams in the same league will get the chance to qualify.

Group Leaders

Right now, Denmark, Spain, Hungary, and the Netherlands are at the top of each group of League A.
Scotland, Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Norway are holding the top spot in League B.
Turkey, Greece, Kazakhstan, and Georgia are all the group leaders of League C.
League D’s group leaders are Latvia and Estonia.
