UFC is back in Asia for the first time after Covid and they have blessed fans with another stacked card. The PPV card will be headlined by ageless Warrior Glover Teixeira facing a young surging prospect Jiri Prochazka.
Card also features Bullet Valentina Schvchanko facing Brazilian Taila Santos. The feature bout of the card will be the 2020 Fight of the Night between Weili Zhang & Joanna Jędrzejczyk.
Glover Teixeira will defend his UFC light heavyweight title against Jiri Prochazka on June 11, pitting the old veteran against the young Samurai. The fight will be held at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Teixeira won the UFC light heavyweight title in October 2021 by defeating Jan Blachowicz.
Prochazka on the other end is a Muay Thai gold medalist from the Czech Republic and former RIZIN light heavyweight champion. He is currently on a 12-fight winning streak. He made his UFC debut in 2020 and last fought in May 2021, defeating Dominick Reyes by knockout. He is a certified finisher finishing last of his ten opponents by KO or TKO
Prochazka will also have a four-inch reach advantage over Teixeira, which could pose problems for the UFC veteran. Teixeira, on the other hand, has been known to dish more than he takes. Glover’s chin may no longer be the same, but his heart, combined with old man strength, has helped him win the Championship.
The Bullet Valentina Schvchanko will compete in the Octagon yet again. Her most recent encounter was in September, when she defeated Lauren Murphy by TKO. she is now 11-2 in the UFC as both of her losses came against Amanda Nunes. Shevchenko won the UFC flyweight title in 2018 by defeating Joanna Jedrzejczyk, and she has successfully defended it six times since then.
Talia Santos, on the other hand, is a former contestant on Dana White’s Contender Series. She is currently on a four-fight winning streak, with her most recent victory coming in November against Joanne Wood via submission.
Shevchenko is an all-around fighter who will be at ease wherever the fight goes; on the other hand, Santos believes that the best way to defeat Shevchenko is on the ground. In her last four fights, Santos has landed 11 takedowns, including five against Roxanne Modafferi and five against Molly McCann. Talia’s ability to impose her will on the ground will be interesting to watch, as Valentina is a skilled grappler.
Valentina, who prefers to beat fighters at their own game, may take the fight to the ground.
Santos is no slouch on the feet, either, as her boxing ability is one-of-a-kind. When she senses blood, she will attack with her powerful hands.
Valentina is a 6:1 favorite, but this match-up is much closer, and strange things have been happening in the women’s divisions recently.
Former champions Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk will face off again at UFC 275 on June 11 in Singapore.
This is a rematch from their fight of the year in 2020. Zhang won a split decision to retain the UFC strawweight title after a back-and-forth battle with Jedrzejczyk. Dana White has dubbed this fight a Title Eliminator, with the winner facing Esparza for the title.
Both fighters know a lot about each other, so it’ll be interesting to see if they stick to standing and trading like they did last time or if one of them decides to go to the ground.
