United News: Coming over to a club when things are bad takes real courage. Erik Ten Hag’s decision to become the manager for United was a bold one as most managers would back away from the hassle.
Even his entrance into the league had a touch of drama to it. Ten Hag had words for Klopp and Pep Guardiola. His words about the era’s ending were more like a statement that United are coming for them.
However, empty words do not go a long way in this league. It is difficult to imagine that any manager would be able to transform this United squad into a Title contending team.
Manchester United this season has been absolutely average. This is not something you expect from a club with such talented players. 2021-22 was Manchester United’s worst season since 1992.
United News: United managed to hit all-time lows hit various categories
While Manchester United may have qualified for Europe this indeed was their worst season since the Premier League was formed. The club only managed to get 58 points in 38 games.
That is 6 points lower than David Moyes’s tally of 64 points when United finished 7th in 2013-14. United only managed to win 16 games out of 38 this season which is not even up to the 50% mark.
They conceded 56 goals and set a new record high 2 ahead of the club’s performance in 2018-19. When you look at the competition, City and Liverpool have conceded just 21 and 22 goals in the season.
The gap is huge and the situation is tough. But when asked whether Ten Hag could undermine Klopp and Pep, as per the Daily Mail, his answer was yes. He believes that the situation could be improved with the right push.
Will the sixth time be the charm for United?
Erik ten Hag is the 6th manager to take over the reins at United since Sir Alex left. Apart from Mourinho, none of the managers had much success in terms of trophies or performance.
While Ten Hag claims to be aware of the situation and has had a lot of conversations, it is pivotal that he cleans the dressing room up. Any club which is successful has a feeling of togetherness that takes precedence over anything else.
Changes will have to be made, that bit is obvious. But the coach needs to find a way to communicate and manage some of the big egos on the team. It is pivotal for all players to be on the same wavelength.
There can be a big shift of personnel as many players will leave the club and the fans will be expecting some new signings. It will be interesting to see which players Ten Hag and his team target.
