Andre Gomes is reportedly believed to prefer a move to Manchester United over Juventus
With Michael Carrick set to retire at the end of the season, Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing in a new midfielder at Old Trafford. The Englishman’s exit from the club is also linked with the departure of other midfielders in the form of Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini.
Mourinho is not satisfied by his current batch of midfielders
The Frenchman has hinted that he is unhappy with the Portuguese boss and want to move away from Manchester as his relationship with Mourinho is still deteriorating. The Belgian is out of contract in two months and is unexpected to extend his stay with the club while the Spaniard has struggled to cement his place in the starting line-up. All these elements point to Mourinho needing to sign a new midfield man.
Inside News-
According to news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona man Andre Gomes has requested a move away from the club in the summer. The Portuguese international arrived at the Catalonian club after winning the Euro in 2016 but has not managed to settle in well at the Camp Nou. Gomes has fallen further down the pecking order since Barcelona signed Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele and is mainly restricted to appearances from the bench.

The 24-year-old has also stated that he is afraid of leaving his home and step outside and has explained that angry fans and supporters are always hurling abuses towards him. Gomes has started just 4 La Liga matches this season and is eager for more game-time. Therefore, a move to United won’t be unexpected for Gomes, but he won’t come at a low price. The Barcelona flop has a release clause of £87 million if Mourinho is interested in his services.
Author’s Take-
I guess it makes sense for Mourinho to make a move for Gomes, although he may not have fit in well at Barcelona; he works hard and is capable of producing moments of brilliance. Under the guidance of his national compatriot, Gomes could become a different player altogether. But £87 million is too steep a price for United to gamble on.
