Matt Ryan has reportedly caught the attention of Jose Mourinho and Manchester United, and after keeping three straight Premier League clean sheets in November, he has reportedly put himself on the radar of the club
With the Red Devils afraid that they could lose David De Gea in the summer, the Australian is apparently one of Mourinho’s No 1 targets to come in as a replacement.
But Ryan himself is not willing to get carried away with all the speculation, admitting that it’s part and parcel of professional football.
“Rumours float around all the time,” Ryan wrote for Players Voice.
“If I’d actually played for every team I’d been linked with through the years, I would have represented Real Madrid, Liverpool and quite a few others by now!”
“It’s not something I think about, although it’s hard to ignore it completely when all your family and friends are messaging you to see whether it’s true. All I’ll say is this: I love doing what I’m doing and where I’m doing it.”
The 26-year-old has a contract at Brighton until July 2022, which means Manchester United would have to come up with a gigantic offer in order to seal his exit from the club.
it also has to be noted that Ryan grew up as a huge Arsenal fan, and he also revealed how he used to get up at 4.30 am to watch Thierry Henry in full flight in the Champions League.
Unfortunately for the custodian, the Gunners are pretty well stocked when it comes to number ones between the sticks, with Bernd Leno and Petr Cech in a fierce battle to be their first-choice keeper.
Having starred for Brighton in October, Ryan was rewarded with the PFA’s player of the month award, proving that his continued rise is no accident.
While Mourinho, Manchester United and their fans would loathe losing perhaps the best goalkeeper in the world in De Gea, beginning a search for a proper replacement is the logical thing to do, and Ryan, thanks to his performances since Brighton’s promotion, has proved that he deserves a shot at an elite club fighting for glory on multiple fronts.
