Chelsea has activated the Werner release clause. United has set site on another player as his value decreases.
Timo Werner is one of the most sought after players in the current transfer window. The German international has attracted suitors from all over Europe. And rightfully so too.
The player is enjoying a sensational spell with RB Leipzig in Bundesliga. He is the 2nd in the top scorer’s list at 25 goals, just 4 behind Lewandowski who sits at 1st with 29 goals. Overall in the season, Werner has 31 goals and 12 assists for Leipzig.
Following his sensational performances, many clubs were interested in him. But Werner refused for a move in January 2020, insisting he will complete the season with Leipzig. But now the season is nearly complete. Leipzig’s title aspirations are also over.
According to the Standard, Chelsea has made an offer to Leipzig for Werner. Chelsea has agreed to pay his release clause which is around £55 million. There could be a slight variation based on Leipzig’s Champions League qualification.
As per reports from Goal, Chelsea also has given a personal contract for Werner. It has a 5-year deal where the German receives $11.4 million per year. The player will receive £200,000 a week, a pretty lucrative deal as far as Werner’s concerned.
But Chelsea is just close yet. The deal is not finalized. Both Leipzig and Werner are still to give official confirmation of agreement with the offer. As far as Leipzig are concerned, this is the right time to cash in. Because they might end up losing him for less next season.
Although if someone matches Chelsea’s contract Werner could change his mind. It is clear that he would get more game time at Chelsea than Liverpool.
