Video: Raina welcomes Uthappa to CSK in a hilarious way

Chennai Super Kings are the second-most successful team in IPL history. However, they had a terrible campaign last time. Tagged as the most consistent team in the league, the yellow army failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in history.

As a result, they came under fire for their performances. MS Dhoni’s team started the season on a positive note with a win over Mumbai Indians. However, as the games progressed, they started losing sheen on the field.

They lost more games (8) than their total number of victories (6). The yellow army spent most of the time at the bottom of the points table. Although they were far from being impressive, they somehow found form in the fag end of the season.

They finished the season with three wins in a row. As a result, they finished 7th in the points table. After CSK’s floppy show, reports stated that MS Dhoni would retire from CSK. However, the CSK captain confirmed that IPL 2020 is not his last season.

CSK missed the services of Suresh Raina in the previous season. The southpaw pulled out of the tournament citing personal reasons. However, a top CSK official had confirmed that Raina will play for CSK.

Much to everyone’s expectations, the yellow army retained the marquee player ahead of the auction. “We will retain Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni will be the captain. Apart from Harbhajan Singh, we might release a few more players,” a CSK official told The Indian Express.

Raina welcomes Uthappa to CSK

In an attempt to beef up the batting line-up, they traded Robin Uthappa from Rajasthan Royals. It is cognisance of the fact that Uthappa is the most sought-after players in franchise cricket. Interestingly, he was also the first batsman to score a fifty for Team India in T20Is.

He was part of the Indian team that won T20 World Cup 2007. At that time, Uthappa, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni used to share the dressing room. Now, these three players will be playing for CSK next season.

Meanwhile, Suresh Raina showed how close they are when he shared a video from an old IPL fixture to welcome Robin Uthappa to the yellow army. Recently, a fan uploaded video from the reverse leg between the CSK and Pune Warriors back in IPL 2013 season.

Watch the video below:

During that match, Raina affected a brilliant run-out to dismiss Robin Uthappa. Raina drew praises for his sharp fielding. After coming across this video clip on Instagram, Raina decided to share it on his Instagram story.

It is no doubt that CSK will deliver the amends in the next season. The upcoming auction will kick-off on February 18. Meanwhile, the yellow army will be looking forward to adding more key players for the next season.

Chennai Super Kings release 6 players

List of players retained by CSK: MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, N Jagadeesan, Faf Du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sam Curran, Ravi Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Mitchell Santner, Josh Hazlewood, Shardul Thakur, Karn Sharma, KM Asif, Imran Tahir, R. Sai Kishore, Deepak Chahar and Lungi Ngidi.
