South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi had a moment to forget in the 2nd T20I against Pakistan at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg despite his team managing to beat them by 7 runs in a closely contested encounter. With the win at Johannesburg, the Proteas have take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three match T20I series with the third and final T20I to be played at Centurion.
The incident took place in the 17th over of the innings bowled by left-arm fast bowler Beuran Hendricks with Pakistan still needing 38 runs from 21 balls with 8 wickets in hand. Hendricks bowled a short delivery to Pakistan batsman Asif Ali, who was late on the pull and in the end could only manage a top edge with no distance at all. Tabraiz Shamsi came running in from the deep to complete a sharp catch.
Shamsi was over the moon after taking the catch and jumped up in the air emulating Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s flying high celebration. The entire team went up in unison to celebrate the wicket and the fans in the crowd went absolutely berserk after Shamsi had taken the catch. Asif however refused to move from his crease and didn’t seemed flustered by the situation at all.
Replays on the giant screen showed that the ball was well above shoulder height for the second time in the over which made it a no ball. Shamsi was left totally embarrassed with his premature celebration going all wrong and was left with no option but to walk back to his fielding position before the next delivery was bowled. The batsman, however, failed to capitalize on the lifeline and was soon dismissed by Andile Phehlukwayo after scoring just two runs off three deliveries.
