Ajinkya Rahane celebrated his ton, even before reaching the three-figure mark, only to realize it was scoreboard error.
The Deodhar Trophy between India B and India C played at the iconic Ferozshah Kotla was not short on action, but it also bore witness to a comical incident when a scoreboard error made Ajinkya Rahane celebrate his ton, even before reaching the three-figure mark.
The incident happened in the 36th over of the game off Nadeem’s bowling. After opening batsman Ishan Kishan was dismissed after smashing his ton, Ajinkya Rahane was accompanied by Shubham Gill to steer the ship for India C.
Ajinkya Rahane had nudged Nadeem’s delivery off mid-on and taken a single. The scoreboard at that time had reflected that Rahane had reached his century and the India C skipper celebrated the same.
Nonetheless, Ajinkya Rahane eventually got to his ton over the next few balls. He went on to score 144 runs that propelled India C to challenging total of 352 runs. Chasing the target, India B skipper Shreyas Iyer emulated the feat of his counterpart scoring 148 runs off 114 balls. However, it wasn’t enough after India B were bowled for 323 runs in 46.1 overs, 29 runs short of the victory target.
With good showing with both the ball and bat, the Ajinkya Rahane led side lifted the coveted trophy and his moment of embarrassment was overshadowed with him winning the Man of the match award.
