The umpiring standards in the ongoing edition of the Bangladesh Premier League have been surprisingly poor and has surprised the fans and the commentators on a regular basis. Another such instance arose in the 26th game of the season between the Dhaka Dynamites and the Comilla Victorians on Tuesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur when a horrible decision by the on field umpire left the bowler as well as the fielders astounded on the field.
The incident occurred in the 8th over of the Dhaka Dynamites innings when spinner Mehdi Hasan bowled a wide delivery outside the off stump drifting away from the batsman after being hit for a six in the previous delivery. The batsman Darwish Rasooli went for the cut only to manage a thickish inside edge. The ball bounced on the ground and went between the legs of the keeper Anamul Haque, who failed to grab it but was quick to recover the ball, managing to save a run for the team.
The on field umpire however signalled a wide, much to the disbelief of the bowler and the fielders. The Comilla Victorians players were completely baffled and tried their best to convince the umpire what had actually happened but to no avail. The umpire was totally unfazed by the pleas of the fielding side and stood with his original decision even as the inside edge of the bat was clearly visible, even for the commentators, who were miles away from the pitch.
Replays made it pretty clear that the ball had taken the inside edge. The keeper however tried to calm things down and the game progressed. The decision luckily however did not cost the Victorians too much, as they eventually managed to win the match by 7 run.
