21 year old wicketkeeper batsman was spotted having a tough time behind the wickets during the fourth ODI against Australia at Mohali on Sunday. Pant, who replaced MS Dhoni for the last couple of ODIs against Australia, faltered on several occasions behind the stumps to invite criticism from the crowd who did not let him forget to remind him even on one occasion whose boots he was filling in.
Pant missed a stumping chance in the penultimate delivery of the 39th over when Kuldeep Yadav managed to deceive wicketkeeper batsman Peter Handscomb with a short delivery. The ball deflected on hitting the batsman’s pads making it difficult for the 21 year old who failed to collect the ball as it rolled onto the other side of the wicket. Pant’s horror night behind the stumps continued as he missed a much easier stumping chance down the leg side in the 44th over of the match when Ashton Turner was still out of his crease.
The crowd at Mohali who were missing MS Dhoni’s glovework behind the stumps immediately started chanting his name. Things however went from bad to worse for Rishabh Pant when he attempted a no look flick onto the stumps in the third ball of the same over but failed at it horribly costing India an extra run. The crowd went berserk once again and the chants of “Dhoni! Dhoni!” became even more louder as Australia continued to run away with the game.
