David Warner completed a successful redemption story when he won the prestigious Allan Border Medal. Australia’s Best Male Cricketer Of The Year wins this award. Earlier, Warner has won the prize in 2016 and 2017. But, not even in his dreams, Warner could realize that he can win it this year after the suspension he suffered due to the Newland’s Sand Paper gate scandal in March 2018. Hence, David Warner got emotional and broke down in the press conference.
David Warner broke down into tears
Warner along with Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft suffered suspension due to their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal in the 3rd Test against South Africa. David Warner faced the most wrath of the fans and even some of them wished for the complete termination of his career.
But, champions are born when a tough condition arises. David Warner came back and smashed 600 runs in IPL 2019. He won the Orange Cap in this year’s IPL. Warner was also the second-highest run-scorer in the World Cup 2019, just behind Rohit Sharma. He scored 647 runs at an average of 71.88.
However, David Warner suffered a horrid Ashes series where he could manage to score only 95 runs across ten innings. He, however, came back strongly to burry the Pakistan and New Zealand bowling attacks in Australia. He also registered Australia’s highest individual score- 335.
Warner continued his form in T20I cricket as well. He demolished the Sri Lankan and Pakistan bowling attack on home soil. Warner got out only once in the six innings played. He also won the ‘T20I cricketer of the Year’. Warner was very emotional after receiving the prestigious Trophy. He spoke about how his daughter shouted Virat Kohli’s name whenever he played with her in his backyard. He also admitted that he realized the bubble that sportsmen get into.

“I realized a lot of things during that time off that we don’t actually understand or realize when we’re in this bubble, the importance of what this game is and the smiles on the faces that we bring to a lot of people. Having three daughters at home, looking up to guys like ‘Smithy’, ‘Cummo’ — playing cricket in the backyard they’re yelling out Virat Kohli’s name — but these are the smiles on kids’ faces that we put on,” said David Warner as informed by cricket.com.au.
Warner also thanked his parents, his brother and his wife Candice for always staying by his side. He spoke about his wife’s unrelenting support during those tough times. Then, he broke down into tears.
He added, “Obviously there’s a lot of thank yous — I’m going to miss a lot of people — but first and foremost my mum and dad. I know I’ve let you guys down in the past but you guys always stuck … by my side, and I really appreciate that. And my brother.
“My wife … f*** … as I said before, my rock. You’re absolutely amazing. I don’t know what can ever break you. You’re absolutely fantastic. You’re an inspiration, not just to me but to the girls. It’s hard for a man to stand up here and say a lot of nice words about people, but you always seem to bring the best out of me and the kindness of my heart. I can’t thank you enough for what you do for me and our family. I love you dearly,” David Warner concluded
