Nathan Lyon was trapped LBW as he tried to sweep a delivery bowled by India’s chinaman Kuldeep Yadav.
Australia started the Day 4 at the score of 236/6. Much of the Final session of the 3rd Day was washed by Rain. India had to strike early and fast if they were to tighten their grip on the Match. The first session of Day 4 was also washed away by rain and play only resumed after the Lunch. India was up to the task early as Mohammed Shami sent back Pat Cummins in only the 2nd over of the day.
This wicket was soon followed by the dismissal of Peter Handscomb, Cummins’ overnight partner, as he was clean bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. Australia was steadily progressing towards getting bundled out in the first innings. In the 5th Ball of the 91st over of Australian Innings, Kuldeep Yadav joined the party as he sent back Nathan Lyon. Kuldeep bowled a very full delivery on the stumps, which Lyon wanted to sweep.
He missed the ball completely and the ball struck his pads. The ball somewhat drifted in the air and dipped into Nathan Lyon. Lyon could not judge the dip in the ball and missed it completely. The Indians made a vociferous appeal in unison and Umpire Ian Gould had no hesitation to raise his fingers and Nahan Lyon short stay at the crease ended as he departed from 0 off 5 balls, handing Kuldeep Yadav his fourth well deserved wicket in the innings.
Australia was bundled out for 300 runs in the first Innings, trailing the Indian score by 322 runs. India decided to enforce the follow-on. But bad light halted play again and Australia were 6/0 in the 4 overs that were bowled in the 2nd Innings. The Day 4 was finally called off.
