WATCH: Hardik Pandya gets a lifeline after bails refuse to come off despite the ball hitting the stumps

Zing bails have created quite a sensation in the ongoing edition of the IPL. There have been quite a few instances where the ball has hit the stumps, but the bail has refused to fall off. It has already happened a couple of times in earlier matches of the IPL 2019. Viewers witnessed a repeat of the same during the match between the Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday when the bails refused to come off giving Hardik Pandya a lifeline.

It all happened during the 13th over of the Mumbai innings when Hardus Viljoen was bowling to Hardik Pandya. Viljoen bowled it at the stumps after Pandya shuffled across, missing the target by an inch as the ball managed to beat a diving KL Rahul to race away towards the fine leg boundary. The on field umpire awarded it as 5 wides in favour of the Mumbai Indians but replays showed that the ball had actually hit the stumps and the bails had not been dislodged.

Earlier in the day, K.L. Rahul slammed an unbeaten hundred, his first in the IPL, as Kings XI Punjab also rode on Chris Gayle’s pyrotechnics to post a mommoth 197/4 in their 20 overs. Rahul (100 not out off 64 balls) and Gayle (63 off 36 balls) joined hands for a 116-run opening wicket partnership to give the away side a blistering start. While Rahul hit six fours and six sixes, Gayle bludgeoned seven maximums and three sixes.

Gayle, typically, took time to get going and it was only in the fifth over that the legendary West Indian changed gears by hitting Jason Behrendorff for three sixes and one four as the Aussie leaked 23 runs. Gayle was eventually dismissed in the 13th over after which Kings XI slowed down a bit. Rahul however ensured they get to an above par score by smashing Hardik Pandya 6-4-6-6 in the first four deliveries of the 19th over and then hit Jasprit Bumrah for a four and six in the final over as 38 runs came in the last two overs.
