The highly anticipated third test match between India and England is underway at the Ageas Bowl at Southampton. England skipper Joe Root won the toss earlier in the day and had absolutely no hesitation in opting to bat as England openers walked out to bat on what seemed an excellent pitch to bat on. Jasprit Bumrah, who hadn’t yet tasted tasted much success with the new ball up until now, was given another opportunity to open the bowling for India and he replied with a wicket in the very second over of his opening spell.
Jasprit Bumrah set Keaton Jennings with four teasing outswinger in the previous over before getting one to nip back sharply in the very first ball of the second over to hit Jennings under the knee right in front of the stumps. Jennings who was expecting the ball to move away from him, was left dumbstruck as he headed back towards the pavillion. Jennings, who hasn’t had a great outing in this series so far and his place in the England side has been subject to a fair amount of criticism. Another failure with the bat meant that his poor form in the series was far from being over.
Jasprit Bumrah, who was the star with the ball for India in the previous test match, picking up his second fifer in his relatively short test career, once again demonstrated his ability to pick up wickets, this time with the new ball. The wicket of Jennings provided India with the momentum to the to run through England’s middle order, who were once again found wanting against the Indian fast bowlers.
