It was a tremendous finish from Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday after being on the back foot for most part of the game. Mumbai got off to a poor start after being sent in to bat by the home side and were pegged back by the regular loss of wickets and the brilliance of the SRH bowlers upfront.
The SRH bowlers bowled a tight line hardly giving anything away and managed to keep a tight lid on the scoring rate making sure that the Mumbai batsmen found it difficult to get going. Mumbai were completely down and out at 86/6 before Kieron Pollard came to the rescue with a much needed cameo to propel the three time IPL champions to a respectable total. Pollard made sure that that Mumbai made it past the 100 run mark before adding 29 runs in the last two overs of the innings.
It was an exquisite display of power hitting from the big West Indian, who made his intentions pretty clear in the first ball of the penultimate over when he smashed a one handed six off the bowling of Siddharth Kaul. It was a slightly overpitched delivery from Kaul and Pollard, who was deep in his crease waiting for the yorker, ended up completely misjudging it.
It appeared for a second that he had mistimed it as his bottom hand came off the handle as he attempted the hit. The brute power from the big man was there for everyone to see as he still managed to deposit the ball 10 rows back over the long off boundary. Pollard remained unbeaten on 46 off just 26 balls as Mumbai fought their way to 136/7 in their 20 overs following the blitzkreig from the big West Indian.
