Kings XI Punjab seem to be in a fun mood as retweeted a picture shared by the official twitter handle of the Cricket World Cup on Kane Williamson’s dismissal by Yuzvendra Chahal in the first semifinal between India and New Zealand on Tuesday. The IPL franchise celebrated the dismissal of the New Zealand skipper at the hands of the Indian leg spinner by sharing a funny banter with fans on social media.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, New Zealand were off to a terrible start after opener Martin Guptill was sent packing by Jasprit Bumrah in the third over. Used to the same challenging circumstances as New Zealand openers have never managed to hit the ground running in the England and Wales tournament, skipper Williamson stepped in and was en route to play a captain’s innings against India.
Even though New Zealand showcased their worst batting performances in the first powerplay, Williamson was rock-solid with opener Henry Nicholls and was determined to lead the fightback for the 2015 World Cup finalists. Leading the mantle of his team yet again, Williamson scored a sublime half-century to help New Zealand revive from an early blow. He reached his fourth World Cup half-century before he was dismissed for 67 by Indian spinner Chahal in the 35th over.
The 32-year-old mistimed his shot and ended up giving away a thick edge, leaving Ravindra Jadeja to do the rest at point. With his fifty-plus score against India, the Kiwi skipper also became the highest run-getter for New Zealand in a single World Cup campaign. Williamson’s wicket was a much-needed breakthrough for India and the official handle of KXIP decided to take Twitter by storm by citing a trending meme to sum up Yuzvendra Chahal’s reaction after taking the wicket.
The tweet shared by KXIP has created a laughing riot among twitter users.
