The much awaited third ODI between India and Australia is underway at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association(JSCA) Stadium in Ranchi. Australia got off to an excellent start as openers Aaron Finch(93) and Usman Khawaja (104) shared a 193 run stand for the first wicket after being sent in to bat on a good looking Ranchi track. The wickets of Finch and Khawaja brought India back into the game but Glenn Maxwell took over from where the two left and started smashing the ball to all parts of the ground.
The onslaught from Maxwell was eventually brought to an end by the combination of a bullet throw from Ravindra Jadeja and Dhoni’s lightening fast hands behind the stumps. It was in the final ball of the 42nd over when chinaman Kuldeep Yadav bowled a short delivery outside the off stump to Shaun Marsh, who slapped it on the backfoot wide of Jadeja at short cover and immediately set off for the run. Jadeja collected the ball with some difficulty and fired in a bullet throw to Dhoni who deflected it with his gloves into the stumps.
There was no big celebrations from Dhoni, but it was a masterful work from him and Maxwell knew he had failed to make his ground. The decision was referred upwards but Maxwell was already on his way back to the pavilion by the time the confirmation came from the third umpire. The dismissal brought about a huge roar in the stadium when the third umpire adjudicated out and it was out there on the big screen for everyone to see. The crowd at Ranchi went absolutely esctatic to see their local boy pulling off a stunner to give India the big wicket of the well set and dangerous looking Maxwell.
