MS Dhoni was spotted sweating it out in the nets ahead of the 2nd ODI against Australia to be played at Adelaide on Tuesday. The veteran wicketkeeper batsman had a bitter sweet outing on his comeback to international cricket, scoring a 96 ball 51 in the first ODI as India ended up losing the game by 34 runs. His slowish knock in a mammoth run chase of 289 was one of the primary reasons why India failed to cross the finish line at the SCG on Saturday.
MS Dhoni was playing his first international game since November, 2018 as he was not part of the squad for the three match T20I series against the West Indies at home and the three match T20I series against Australia at the start ofthe ongoing tour. The rustiness in his batting was visible as the 37 year old struggled to rotate the strike early on in his innings and unfortunately lost his wicket just when he was starting to play a few shots.
Dhoni, once a very good player of spin bowling, has struggled against the spinners in last couple of years. The veteran has scored less than 4.2 runs per over against spinners for the last four years in ODIs and his inability to rotate strike against the spinners in recent times has earned him considerable flak from the veterans of the game.
Dhoni however is willing to put in the extra yards to improve on his newfound weakness as he was spotted facing them in the nets ahead of the 2nd ODI against Australia at Adelaide. The 37 year old was even spotted giving Dinesh Karthik a lesson or two regarding how to tackle the spinners and deal with their variations.
