Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni continued his love affair with the Decision Review System with a spot on last second review in the opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday. Dhoni is generally quick to go for a review in case he feels the umpire has got the decision wrong but he waited until the last second to go for the review on this occasion. It was almost as if he was teasing the umpire into believing that he had made the correct decision.
The incident in the 12th over of the RCB innings when leg spinner Imran Tahir’s googly went right through tailender Navdeep Saini’s defence. There was loud appeal from Tahir and the CSK players for LBW but the umpire’s finger was unmoved. Tahir was convinced that he had got his man but Dhoni waited until the last possible second before going for the review. It was confirmed in the replays that there was bat involved and luckily for CSK, Shane Watson had completed the catch in the slips.
Saini was dismissed for just 2 runs as RCB lost their 7th wicket for 53 and were eventually bundled out for 70. The target wasn’t exactly a walk in the park for the defending champions on a track where none of the batsmen found it easy to get going but they kept their composure to chase it down with 7 wickets in hand. It was the ideal result MS Dhoni would have hoped for after winning the toss and deciding to bowl first in front of their home crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
