Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni is undoubtedly an asset for the Indian cricket team with his wealth of experience and ability to read match situations. He is someone who not only the team but also skipper Virat Kohli looks up to when things aren’t going their way. His instructions to the spinners from behind the stumps every now and then are a masterclass in reading the minds of the batsmen.
The 37 year old once again proved his worth again during the second ODI against Australia at Nagpur on Sunday when he accurately predicted Glenn Maxwell’s next shot off the bowling of Kuldeep Yadav. The veteran’s advice helped Kuldeep get rid of the dangerous Maxwell in the very next ball of the over. The incident occured in the 29th over of the Australian innings when the game was nicely in the balance and the hosts had managed to squeeze the run scoring just a bit.
The ball was turning and the pressure of consecutive dot balls seemed to be getting at Maxwell, who was looking really restless at the crease. In the same over, Dhoni was heard on the stump mic advising Kuldeep to keep bowling in the same area predicting that Maxwell would be looking to take him on. Kuldeep obliged and bowled the next delivery on a length just outside the off stump.
Maxwell’s eyes lit up immediately and he went for the pull. The shot selection however was completely wrong given the lack of bounce in the pitch and the ball ended up clattering into the stumps. Kuldeep was spotted crediting Dhoni for the dismissal immediately after getting rid of the dangerous looking Maxwell. It was a massive breakthrough for the Indians as Maxwell could have taken the game away from India very quickly especially with the way he has been batting in the tour so far.
