The final over of the match between Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur produced multiple dramatic moments starting from MS Dhoni losing his cool to Mitchell Santner hitting the last ball for a six to win the game for the defending champions. The drama however unfolded in the very first ball of the over itself when Ravindra Jadeja managed to hit the ball for a six despite losing his balance while playing the shot.
It all happened on the first ball of the last over when CSK required 18 runs to win the match. Stokes bowled a fuller length delivery wide outside the off stump to the left hander, who slipped in the process of getting under it. Interestingly enough, Stokes too ended up losing his footing at the other end. Both the batsman and the bowler were down on the ground as the ball sailed over the boundary ropes, much to the amazement of the fans in the stadium.
Dhoni, who was at the non striker’s end, also enjoyed the shot from the left hander and walked up to his partner to give him a friendly tap on the helmet with his bat. The six from Jadeja brought down the equation to just 12 to get off the remaining 5 balls. Dhoni was dismissed by Stokes on the third ball of the over but Mitchell Santner’s last ball six ensured that the defending champions got over the line with four wickets to spare. The win made sure that the Yellow Army consolidated their position at the top of the IPL 2019 points table with 12 points from 7 matches.
