WATCH: Shirmon Hetmyer’s hit sends Gurkeerat Mann’s bat flying at the non striker’s end

Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Shirmon Hetmyer was on fire during RCB’s final match of the IPL 2019 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The West Indian smashed his maiden IPL fifty to power the hosts to a 4 wicket win over playoff favourites SRH to finish the tournament on a high after their own hopes of making it to the playoffs were ended by the rain causing the previous match against Rajasthan Royals to be abandoned.

Chasing 176 to win, the hosts were pelted early blows after being losing the wickets of Parthiv, Kohli and De Villiers with just 21 runs on the board. Hetmyer, who walked to bat at number four, started off brilliantly smashing a couple of boundaries off Khaleel Ahmed before taking the attack to Rashid Khan in his very first over. Hetmyer managed to hit a six on the fourth delivery of the over and could have had another boundary on the very next ball as he attempted to smash it straight down the ground but ended up knocking his partner Gurkeerat Mann’s bat at the non striker’s end.

It was a brutal hit from the West Indian which almost knocked off his partner Gurkeerat Mann at the non striker’s end, who was saved by his bat coming down just in time to make sure he was not at the receiving end of the blow. The bat went flying for some distance before landing on the ground at extra cover, eventually making it a dot ball. Hetmyer, who had absolutely smashed the ball with all his might could not believe his luck as he had to settle for no run at all.

There was no stopping Shirmon Hetmyer however as he continued to hit boundaries and sixes at will, stitching a 144 run partnership for the fourth wicket with Gurkeerat Mann to take the hosts onto the brink of victory. The southpaw was eventually dismissed for 75 off 47 balls but the damage had already been done as far as SRH’s hopes were concerned. Umesh Yadav came out and slammed a couple of fours in the last over to take RCB home with four balls to spare.
