Saurashtra batsman Cheteshwar Pujara had been subject to a lot of criticism from several quarters for not walking despite edging the ball in the ongoing semifinal of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy against Karnataka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. It was a massive moment in the game as he was batting on just one run when the incident occurred and went on to score 45 runs from 99 balls before being eventually dismissed by Abhimanyu Mithun.
A similar incident however transpired in the second innings of the test match where he was once again given a lifeline despite being clearly out much to the anguish of the opposition. It all occurred in the 25th over of Saurashtra’s second innings bowled by Vinay Kumar. The Karnataka pacer dished out a full delivery outside the off stump and Pujara made a slight push forward only to find the outside edge into the gloves of Srinivas Sharath.
The wicketkeeper and the close in fielders instantly went up for the appeal but the umpire, once again, was unmoved as in the first innings. Vinay Kumar literally pleaded with the umpire to give the decision in his favour but to no avail. The decision could prove extremely costly for Karnataka with Pujara being one of the mainstays of the Saurashtra batting line up.
