Virat Kohli was in top form as he slammed his fifth IPL century and first of IPL 2019 against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday. Put into bat first in a must-win tie, the Royal Challengers Bangalore smashed 9 fours and 4 sixes en route to a scintillating 57 ball 100 to help them get past the 200 run mark for the second time in the season. Kohli followed up his brilliant knock with a stunning catch to dismiss KKR youngster Shubman Gill.
It was pitched up delivery from Dale Steyn inviting the youngster to go over the top and Gill tried to hit it over the fielder at mid off who was none other than Virat Kohli himself. The youngster however failed to get the desired connection and ended up skewing it off the cue end of the bat. The RCB skipper fluffed his lines on the first attempt but was able to gather it on the rebound with his left hand.

RCB were not really well placed at the halfway mark but the duo of Moeen Ali and Kohli changed the complexion of the game in a matter of minutes, adding 90 runs for the third wicket off just 43 balls. Kuldeep Yadav was at the receiving end as the England batsman smacked him for 27 in a single over and this is where the turn around began for RCB. Ali was dismissed after scoring 66 runs off just 27 balls to get things going for the Royal Challengers.
After Ali’s dismissal, it was the well set Virat Kohli who took the onus of scoring runs at an extremely rapid pace in the last four overs. The RCB skipper joined hands with Marcus Stoinis for a 64-run fourth wicket partnership as the visitors amassed 143 runs in the last 10 overs to flatten the home team. Virat Kohli was dismissed by Harry Gurney off the final ball of the innings while Stoinis remained unbeaten on 17 off 8 deliveries to propel the visitors to 213/4 at the end of their 20 overs.
