The World Cup 2019 is fast-approaching and the preparations are in full swing for the Pakistan players. They are all currently busy playing the Pakistan Cup, a List A tournament fought between five teams. The tournament kicked off on 2 April 2019 and has witnessed two matches thus far. In the second game between Federal Areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an interesting incident took place involving Ahmed Shehzad.
Shehzad is one of the better fielders in the Pakistan set-up. However, there are times when he drops really easy catches. This game in the Pakistan Cup also witnessed a similar incident when the 27-year-old dropped an absolute sitter. What is more baffling is that he further asked the umpires to check the catch again despite clearly putting it to the ground.
Not the first time Ahmed Shehzad has done something like this
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa needed just three runs off four balls while chasing a target of 270. The batsman in the middle, Khushdil Shah tried to loft a delivery from Mohammad Nawaz over the deep mid-wicket fielder and finish the game off in style. However, he failed to get the right timing on that and it went straight to the fielder manning the fence over there, Ahmed Shehzad.
It was clear that the cricketer dropped the catch even when you watch it in real-time. But he asked the umpires to check it resulting in a silly act. This is not the first time that Ahmed Shehzad has done something of such sorts. Once in the game against Sri Lanka, he dropped a catch but celebrated had as if he had taken it.
Pakhtunkhwa province won the match by three wickets and with two balls to spare. For his 5-wicket haul, Wahab Riaz was named the ‘Man of the Match’. In this game, Ahmed Shehzad scored 56 off 60 balls in an innings which included 8 fours.
