Wesley Fofana news: Leicester City midfielder James Maddison has said the French defender’s move to Chelsea is “probably best for all parties”.
Fofana has finally sealed his move to Leicester’s Premier League rivals Chelsea. The Foxes were reluctant to let Fofana leave and had rejected multiple bids from Chelsea.
However, Foxes finally accepted a £75m offer from Chelsea for Fofana. The 21-year-old has completed his move to Chelsea and has signed a seven-year contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Midfielder Maddison congratulated Fofana on his move to Chelsea. “Good luck on your new chapter little bro!! A pleasure to play with you and share a changing room with you. A good friend and a Rolls Royce of a centre half?❤️ @Wesley_Fofanaa,” Maddison wrote on Twitter.
Wesley Fofana news: “Probably best for all parties”: Maddison on Frenchman’s Chelsea move

Maddison’s post did not go down well with a section of the audience. One of the tweets was critical of Maddison for wishing Fofana good luck, citing the midfielder left Leicester just months after renewing his contract until 2027.
Reacting to that, Maddison insisted it was probably best for all parties to let Fofana leave. “Probably slightly harsh to question my respect for the club and fans just because I wished a teammate and friend of 2 years good luck at their new club?,“ Maddison wrote.
“I understand the frustration but if a player desperately wants to leave, it’s probably best for all parties to let them.”
Meanwhile, Fofana has left Leicester after 52 appearances for the Premier League side. He joined Leicester from Saint-Étienne in 2020 on a five-year contract.
Fofana made 38 appearances for Leicester City in his first season with the Midlands club. Of those 38, 28 came in the Premier League. Fofana could only make 12 appearances for Leicester last season as an injury sidelined him from action for several months.
Fofana had played for Leicester in their first two matches of the Premier League 22/23 season. He was dropped from the squad for the two games they have played since, amid Chelsea links.
Meanwhile, Leicester City have had a difficult start to their Premier League 22/23 campaign. They are bottom of the Premier League table with just one point from their first four fixtures.
Leicester City host Man Utd at the King Power Stadium in their next game in the Premier League. Brendan Rodgers’ side will be hoping to improve their position in the table with a win over Man Utd.
