Manchester United revealed the departure of their most high profile player this summer.
The Red Devils have waved goodbye to almost 15 of his players this summer on the expiry of their contract including most high profile departures of Spaniard Midfielder Ander Herrera and United’s Captain Antonio Valencia and it was officially announced before the end of the season that they won’t be staying with the club beyond the summer.
The Norwegian manager wants to keep the hold on the Spaniard but his entourage failed to agree on a contract extension with Manchester United board.
The 29-year old is expected to join Paris Saint Germain on a free transfer but there is no official confirmation of the same yet.
Manchester United captain has been at the club for 10 years since Sir Alex Ferguson signed him from Wigan Athletic in June 2009. At Wigan Athletic, his performance attracted attention from several high profile clubs but eventually ended going to Manchester United.
Valencia has since won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Europa League and three FA Community Shields. Valencia was voted into the PFA Team of the Year in his debut season with the club and other major trophies during his time there.
Other important departures include the forgotten man James Wilson who has spent time out on loan with Brighton, Derby County, Sheffield United and Aberdeen.
He scored two goals on his first Premier League start under Ryan Giggs in a 3-1 win over Hull City.
Wales Under 21 captain 20-year old Regan Poole has also been shown the exit door this season.
The complete list of players released by official site of Manchester United: Manchester United have released Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia, Regan Poole, Zak Dearnley, Tom Sang, Callum Whelan, Matty Willock, James Wilson, Matthew Olosunde, Tyrell Warren, DJ Buffonge, Callum Gribbin, Baars and Josh Bohui, James Thompson.
Herrera publicly expressed his belief in Solskjaer, claiming he is the right man to take the club forward.
That is my opinion as a fan and as someone who knows the club at the moment. These fans are the best but they [the management team] need time. They need time because this is not going to be on the first day. The club will need time, confidence and support. I am sure they will give it but the only thing I ask for them is time because this is not easy.
There are examples such as Liverpool. They are probably going to win the Champions League but I am leaving this club and they haven’t won one title in five years I have been here. They have done incredible work but the fans have given them time. That’s what this club needs at the moment.
“He’s the right person [for the job] so I am convinced it’s not going to take 30 years [to win the title again], that’s for sure. I am optimistic about the future but I ask the fans to give them time. Some of them might tell me to shut up because they have been waiting already.”
Survival of the best given by Herbert Spencer is adopted at Old Trafford under Norwegian manager reign. Ole Gunner Solskjaer vows to renovate and strengthen up United’s squad after being eliminated from qualifying for Champions League next season.
