Owned by the RPSG group, KL Rahul’s Lucknow SuperGiants is one of the newest additions to this year’s Indian Premier League. The franchise holders formerly owned Rising Pune SuperGiant which participated in the event in 2016 and 2017.
Holding the third place in the league’s point table Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow SuperGiants both have the exact 18 points with 9 wins in their bags. Coached by Zimbabwean former player Andy Flower and Richard Grant Halsall this Uttar Pradesh team has qualified for the IPL playoff 2022, besides Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Bengaluru.
Being in the third position Lucknow is to compete against Royal Challengers in the second match of the playoffs. According to the rules, the second match, also known as the eliminator match decides who will get eliminated from the top three. Even if KL Rahul’s team secures a win against Kohli’s team they are yet to win another match to qualify for the final match of the IPL 2022. While the road to the trophy is straightforward for LSG it is not that easy.
However, their right-handed skipper 30-year-old KL Rahul is in his form which boosts the team’s overall performance. Rahul has been successful at putting big numbers on the board, with 537 runs with a strike rate of 135.26 he maintains the second position in the Orange Cap holders list right after Jos Butler with 629 runs. This batter also made an enormous knock against Mumbai, 103* with 9 fours and 5 sixes.
“Lucknow batting for 20 overs without losing a single wicket on Wednesday was incredible. It’s not something you can ever imagine happening, considering the risks you take and the shots you play. Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul always had the potential to do something special as an opening partnership but that was crazy and puts them in a great position to go on and win the tournament,” former England batter Pietersen stated in his column on IPL betting site Betway.
Besides his powerful performance with the bat and his intelligence, the team is heavily relying on its bowlers too. Players such as Mohsin Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, A Badoni, Avesh Khan, and JO Holder are steering the bowling attack. Having a harmonious team in all aspects, batting, fielding, and bowling Lucknow is in a beneficial place. Other than Rahul, they also have Quinton, DJ Hooda, and Krunal Pandya. Opening to middle-order this newly developed team is in its best shape currently.
In a recent interview, former Indian Wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel told the media “One of the new teams; Lucknow SuperGiants or Gujarat Titans has the excellent potential of winning IPL 2022.”
Right now if we allow ourselves to run a little prediction we will notice that in case LSG wins against RCB in the playoffs the team will confront Rajasthan or Gujarat next for their place in the final as the opponent team.
All things considered, Lucknow may be feeling the squeeze since they have as of late lost against both RR and Gujarat.
