United turned down four occasions to sign Martinelli, will he make them repent it?
Gabriel Martinelli, the Brazilian forward was heavily linked with a move to so many clubs who wanted to sign the teenager but he ended the speculations on July 2, 2019, sealing a deal for long term contract with the North Londoner from Ituano for a fee worth £6milion.
The 18-year-old marked his debut for Arsenal against Nottingham Forest, scoring twice and contributing towards the remarkable victory under Unai Emery managing reign.
Manchester United were once very keen to bring the Brazilian forward to Old Trafford bur things didn’t couldn’t work in favour of him. United repeatedly turned down four occasions where they could have completed the signing for Arsenal forward.
According to reports, in between the year 2015-2017, he was invited over to Manchester to train for four occasions, the forward was even starred in the U18 game for the club once. He even appeared posing with United shirt at one point.
But, the move never turned out to be real suggesting that the Red Devils do not want to pursue the forward anymore who is trying to make his way into the Arsenal line up.
Will he makes United repent over the decision of not signing him over the coming years?
The answer might be a Yes! Because his promising performance in a debut clearly states that Gunners have a real gem in their hands. He was a constant threat to the opponent throughout the game and have to put the efforts for the first-team spot.
There might be few people at Old Trafford who must be thinking about the decision now. On the other hand, Gunners fans are looking forward to his performances in the near future where he could be seen all thriving at the Emirates which would rub the salts on United’s wound.
Now that United have lost Martinelli they can repent over their decision for not signing him a few years ago on long term deal. It won’t be a surprise to anyone if he comes out to be the next big thing at Arsenal. United could have an option in their striking department now that they have a lack of strikers. Also, it would have been easy for Brazilian forward to stake his claim at United rather than currently in Arsenal where he has to go through several stages to claim his first-team spot.
