Aaron Ramsey joined Arsenal back in 2008 from Cardiff for a negligible sum and is now into his final season under his current contract
Aaron Ramsey is very much a senior member in the Arsenal dressing room. The Welsh play-maker has made 360 appearances for the Gunners and has found the back of the net 60 times during that time. The Ramsey contract saga has been going on for a long time now. However, it has now been confirmed that no agreement for an extension has been reached between the club and the player and that Ramsey will honour his current contract which runs out at the end of the season. Many former players and greats have warned Arsenal of the ramifications of letting Ramsey go.
“Everything has been going great with the club,” said Ramsey last week. “We thought we were in a position where we had agreed a deal but that’s no longer the case.”
“So I just have to carry on playing my football and do my best for Arsenal this season and I’ll leave the rest with the club now.”
Former midfielder Jack Wilshere, who left the club under similar circumstances is the latest to insist that Arsenal need to hold on to Ramsey. He said,
“I think you’ve got to look at the situation and ask, ‘How many top teams in the Premier League and elsewhere could he get in?’ And you’d have to say them all – and that speaks volumes about the type of player he is.”
“He’s grown up to be a great player with Arsenal. They could do with someone like him. We know what he can do for the club. For me, he’s a future Arsenal captain. I know he loves the club.”
“It’s difficult for me to comment on because I’m not there but I do know he’s a great player – if it was me I know I would want to keep him around.”
Ramsey is a proper Arsenal type of a player and they might really regret letting him go. Wilshere was once tipped as a future Arsenal great. Injuries, however, derailed his career. Having left the Emirates this summer, his views on his former teammate do ring true to a great extent.
