Wolverhampton Wanderers bid for the French defender in order to reinforce their defense
Reports in France have emerged that Wolverhampton Wanderers have launched an official bid to sign the Axel Disasi from Reims. Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is said to be strengthening his side’s defense this summer with the defender’s signing. Wolves are also uncertain about their defender Ryan Bennett’s future who is on loan at Leicester City.
Disasi would definitely strengthen Wolves’ defense next season as the Premier League side are aiming European football. Wolves are sitting 6th in the Premier League on the verge of qualifying for the Europa League for the second consecutive year. Axel could well be tempted by Wolves’ offer as getting a chance to play European Football.
Wolves reportedly launched a bid of £13.5 million pounds in order to acquire the defender’s services. Axel Disasi on the other hand has been solid for Reims this season with the French team having the best defensive line in Ligue1 this season. Reims conceded just 21 goals this season in Ligue 1, bettering the champions PSG who conceded 24. It was unlucky for them as the French league was suspended this year as an effect of the coronavirus pandemic.
But it seems many clubs are interested in the signing of the young prospect. It was earlier said that Arsenal is leading the race to sign the defender. But since then the links between the club and the player have disappeared. Premier League side Southampton are said to be one of the clubs interested in signing Disasi. Reins director Jean-Pierre Calliot also confirmed that many English teams have shown their interest in the signing Disasi. Till now Wolves, Arsenal and Southampton are the English clubs linked to the player.
Axel Disasi Has Offers From Multiple Premier League Clubs

Not only the English teams, Reims’ fellow Ligue 1 rivals Monaco have entered the race to sign Axel Disasi as per according to L’Equpe (via GFFN). Monaco who has struggled this season to establish consistency in the league finished the season in the 9th place. The French side conceded 44 goals this season and failed to finish in the league’s European places. Though Monaco signed good players in Wissam Ben Yedder and Cesc Fabregas in the recent transfer windows, they have struggled with the backline. Disasi is being considered by Monaco in order to bring longtime stability in their defense. Disasi, 22 can somewhat make Monaco’s defensive future bright.
Although it is difficult for Monaco to sign the defender, given they won’t be playing in Europe next season. Disasi would rather consider offers from Wolves, who have guaranteed European football next season or Arsenal. Arsenal will surely give the defender more of the playing time or even a starting place.
Disasi Looks Well Prepared To Play In The Premier League
Looking at Disasi’s style of play and physique, it is clear that he is well suited for the Premier League. The young defender’s good amount of concentration will also play a crucial part for him playing in the Premier League where a high level of concentration is needed. Though the defender still needs improvement, he can learn it well and gain experience in the Premier League. He is still 22 and is yet to enter the best years of his career.
If all Monaco’s new manager Robert Moreno convinces the defender to join his side by assuring him a starting place, Disasi might give thought. Moreno was hired by Monaco after firing Leonardo Jardim with a failed second stint at the club. Looking at Moreno, he did a fantastic job with the Spanish national team, which was full of youth talent. Moreno managed 9 games as the Spanish national team’s head coach, winning 7 and drawing 2. Disasi might be tempted to work with Moreno given his previous work.
But it is quite clear that Wolves want to sign the defender at any costs before he is lured to their rivals Arsenal or Southampton. Espirito Santo would be desperate to acquire the 22-year old’s services to form a solid backline. Espirito Santo has done a brilliant job with Wolverhampton, qualifying the team for Europa League last season and repeating the feat this year too. There are also reports that the defender has interest from Italy and Spain too. The defender has a bright future ahead should he choose the right team.
