Wolves Transfer News: Club Set to Sign Matheus Nunes

Wolves transfer news: Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on a deal for Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes.

The Guardian report that Wolves have agreed to a deal worth €45m plus €5m in add-ons with Sporting CP for the Portuguese midfielder. Wolves, though, have not yet reached an agreement on personal terms with Nunes.

The deal – should it materialize – would make Nunes the most expensive player in the history of Wolves. Their previous club record transfer fee is the £35m they paid to sign Fabio Silva from Porto in 2020. Silva is currently on a season-long loan at Belgian club Anderlecht.

Meanwhile, Nunez has attracted transfer interest from a host of clubs, with Wolves now set to beat them to the signing of the Portuguese international.

Nunes is a Portuguese attacking midfielder who plays for Sporting CP. The 23-year-old began his senior professional career at Ericeirense in 2016.

He then joined Estoril in the summer of 2018. Nunes signed for Sporting in January 2019, joining on a five-and-a-half-year contract. He has since been playing for Sporting.

Nunes has made 101 appearances for Sporting, including the two games he has featured for them this season. He has also scored eight goals for the Portuguese side.

In his first season at Sporting, Nunes only made 10 appearances for the club. But there has been a considerable increase in his game time since. He featured in 39 games for Sporting in the 2020/21 season, scoring three goals.

He hit a half-century of games played for Sporting last season, appearing in 50 games and scoring 4 goals. He has started the new season in style and has already scored a goal in two matches for Sporting.

Nunes made his debut for Portugal national football team in 2021. He has so far featured in eight games for the 2016 Euro Cup winners. He scored his first, and only goal so far, for Portugal against Turkey in a 2022 World Cup qualification match as Fernando Santos’ side won 3-1.
