Wolves Transfer New: Jason Denayer may return to English Premier League again.

Denayer is a free agent after he refused to renew his contract with Ligue 1 side Lyon. Despite being linked with Torino and Valencia, the Belgium International is still a free agent.

Denayer was a youth product from Anderlecht academy. He joined Manchester City as a youth player. But he did not get the chance to appear on the senior team.

During his time at Man City from 2014 to 2018, Denayer spent four loan spells. Three of them were abroad from the Premier League.

His first loan spell was at Celtic, where Denayer made 29 appearances and scored 5 goals as a defender. He spent two loan stints at Galatasaray with a total of 39 appearances. He made 2 Europa League and 4 Champions League appearances.

He later joined Sunderland and made 24 appearances in the EPL. Those were his only Premier League experience. But his performance was not that good, as poor Sunderland got relegated from England’s top league.

The Belgian defender was sold to Ligue 1 side Lyon for just 6.5 million in the summer transfer window of 2018. He made 102 appearances for the club since his debut. Among those, he made 5 Europa League appearances and 17 Champions League appearances. He became club captain at the age of 24.

Denayer was linked with several clubs while he was at Lyon. Last year, a deal was stuck between Lyon and Rennes. But the player was unable to reach an agreement with the club.

His contract has expired this summer, and he is a free agent now. The Belgian is unable to find a club before the transfer deadline day. He is still available on the market.
Rumours were that several Serie A sides like Inter, and Torino, were interested in signing him, but no deal is offered to the player. Turkish side Besiktas‘ name was also heard.

After selling Conor Coady, the Wolves were confident of not purchasing any defender. But Willy Boli‘s departure to Forest forced Bruno Lage to bring in a new defender. They also sold Leander Dendoncker to Aston Villa for £13million on Deadline day by replacing him with Boubacar Traore from Metz.

They were very optimistic about bringing in veteran West Ham defender Craig Dawson. But they failed to reach an agreement on the final day of this window. Wolves also cancelled Person Mosquera’s loan move.

As things stand, Wolves still have space left for their 25-man Premier League squad, and they still can register free agents.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Wolves are heavily interested in bringing the former Lyon defender. Though Bruno Lage expressed his satisfaction with his defensive option, he confirmed the club’s interest in Jason Denayer and said: “a chance to bring in one experienced player would be better.”

He also added about the player’s playing experience in the Champions League and Belgium national team. Wolves‘ Manager is eager to bring in an experienced defender to replace Boly.
