Yuvraj Singh has given a lot of credit to Virat Kohli after his match-winning knock against England in the second ODI. The left-handed veteran has been on and off the team recently, after failing to perform consistently. He was put back on the team owing to his recent performances in Ranji, especially the 260 against Baroda.

He said “Self-confidence is always there when you have the backing of the team and captain. I think Virat has shown a lot of trust in me and it was very important for me that people in the dressing room trust me”.

Yuvraj said that confidence in him is one thing that he really needs from the skipper and the dressing room, and he received it in plenty. Both Yuvraj and Dhoni led a brilliant charge against the English attack after the team was struggling initially. Just like the good old days, the pair hit it all over the park, at the same time shouldering the middle order responsibility.

“There was a time when I was wondering whether to continue or not to continue. I think a lot of people have helped me throughout this journey. So, never giving up is my theory. So I never gave up, kept working hard. I knew times will change,” – Yuvraj

Yuvraj admitted that he had considered retiring after going through hurdles post his cancer, but he decided to fight on. Yuvi and Dhoni are key members of the squad right now as they both can mentor the upcoming talents before retiring. They have had some brilliant partnerships in the past and the second ODI was no different. On their partnership, Yuvraj said, “Nothing much. We two were the most experienced players in the team. He realised that I was getting boundaries. He was just there rotating the strike and our first target to make a 25 runs together then go for a 50 partnership. After that, we wanted to take it further to 100. I think once that happened, we were both set.”

The performance of the series will be vital with regards to the Champions Trophy, hence the Indians should be proud of their show.

“We were wondering if we had a good start were we would have ended up…it wasn’t good batting early on. Two of the greats stood up, that is what the team management envisioned (the prospect of both Yuvraj and Dhoni in the playing eleven),” – Virat Kohli after the game

With the third match remaining, India would be looking turn it into a complete whitewash.
