According to a recent report, Zidane wanted to sign David De Gea and 2 other Manchester United players.

Zizou currently looks like the next manager of Manchester United. According to recent reports, he wanted these 3 Manchester United players during his time at Madrid.
As per Manchester Evening News, Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane reportedly wanted to sign David de Gea, Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba during his time at Santiago Bernabeu. Zizou wanted to lure the trio to the Santiago Bernabeu last year. He also made a request to Florentino Perez regarding the purchase of the aforementioned players.
Madrid also held informal talks with United last year regarding the players. Madrid were aware about the contractual situations of the three players. However, United informed Madrid about their decision to not sell the 3 players. Since then there has been no substantial talk between two clubs. The negotiations faded off after the informal talks between the two clubs. Since the resignation of Zidane, the talks didn’t progress further.
Lopetegui arrived at Madrid following the Frenchman’s resignation. The three-time Champions League winning manager shockingly resigned three days after leading Real Madrid to European glory. Since the arrival of Lopetegui, Madrid signed Thibaut Courtois instead of David De Gea. They also signed Mariano Diaz instead of Anthony Martial.

Madrid and Zidane were keen on signing De Gea. Zidane wanted Pogba at Santiago Bernabeu. Both of them would have been excellent additions at Madrid. However, Anthony Martial’s interest would be a serious doubt. The French winger hasn’t replicated the golden form he had at Monaco. It was a very bold move from United to not let any of these players go to Madrid.
