Zidane Wants Pepe to Stay At Real

Real Madrid’s Portuguese defender has played a major role in all European tournaments in 2016. Pepe was one of the major forces behind Real’s UEFA Champions League victory and Portugal’s Euro Cup victory.

He has been holding up the defence firmly along with Spanish compatriot Sergio Ramos. However, it appears that he is stalling the extension of his contract at Santiago Bernabeu. His contract will complete its term at the end of this season, as he will complete his 10 years at Real. While the team and the management would want him to continue playing for Real, he will have to make the final decision regarding his stay.

It is believed that Pepe has received an offer to move to China and play for Hebei China Fortune. It is but natural that during the later stages of his career, he would want to move to a well-paying and less competitive league.

Zidane

He has been out of action due to an injury and was set to return against Celta de5 Vigo. However, with the postponement of the match, he will have to wait longer to return on the pitch.

Nevertheless, coach Zinedine Zidane has stated openly, that he would want Pepe to stay. While speaking to a news conference, Zidane clearly said “Of course, I want him to stay, he can stay at the club for as long as he wants. He’s been a huge player to this squad, we’ll see what happens in June but obviously I want him to stay.”

Pepe has been instrumental in Real’s success right from the start. Many questions were raised when he was banned for 10 games for kicking Javier Casquero in the head in 2009. He has always been considered as a rough defender. Nevertheless, time and again he has proved to be world class. He has proved to be a pillar that holds the team together.
