Zidane is reportedly unhappy with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez for failing to sign Manchester United star Paul Pogba.
Zinedine Zidane shocked the football world with his decision to leave Real Madrid at the end of the 2017-18 season. The Frenchman arrived at the Spanish Capital for his second spell in early 2019 after a disastrous start to the campaign for the La Liga giants. The 47-year-old is reportedly considering his position once again after falling out with club president Florentino Perez.
French outlet Soccerlink claims Manchester United star Paul Pogba as the main source of friction between the two. The Frenchman views the 26-year-old as an integral part of his long-term plan at the club. Zidane told Perez to prioritise a deal for the midfielder but the club President reportedly turned down the request. Perez’s refusal to pursue the signing of Pogba has been a key feature of the ongoing spat between the two.
Perez’s approach of former Madrid boss Jose Mourinho on many occasions has also caused the pair to clash. Perez supposedly entered talks with Jose Mourinho in regards to the manager’s job during the months after Zidane’s return to the Bernabeu. The Frenchman reportedly oversaw an underwhelming end to his second stint as Madrid manager further contributing to his unhappiness.
Zidane could end up leaving the thirteen-time European Champions for Juventus at the end of the season.
Real Madrid manager has reportedly stated in private that he could leave Madrid for Juventus at the end of the season. Zidane played for Juventus between 1996 and 2001, notching 24 goals and 14 assists in 151 league appearances. His impressive performances at the Old Lady earned him a record of £46 m move to Madrid in July 2001. The report states that the 47-year-old could move to Italy to reunite with Cristiano Ronaldo at the end of the season.
Real Madrid entered the season under Zidane with few giving them a shot at silverware. They signed Eden Hazard from Chelsea but were always expected to struggle with the Belgian being no Cristiano Ronaldo. Zidane, however, has worked his magic with Madrid winning the Supercopa de Espana beating Atletico Madrid in the final. They have also overtaken Barcelona in the league table after a successful first half of the season.
Los Blancos are now three points clear of their rivals after a narrow 1-0 win over Real Valladolid at the Estadio Jose Zorilla on Sunday. Nacho scored the only goal of the game, heading home a pinpoint cross from Toni Kroos. Real’s upcoming hurdle will be in the Champions League when they take on Manchester City in the Round of 16. The first leg of the two legs will take place in Spain on February 26.
